Did you know that in Japan we call ChatGPT “Chappy” (チャッピー)?
I was talking with Chappy about extrovert/introvert today.
Ok, here is the thing. I see myself as an introvert (to be more precise, more introvert side of person than extrovert). All those questionnaires and personality tests I have taken in the past confirm it.
But, am I really?
Let me make this clear first, I have no complaints about being an introvert. Or rather, I’m proud to be an introvert. Yes, I am a proud introvert.
Just I questioned about that because self image might greatly affect when answering those personality questionnaires and tests. The self image, whether it’s true or not, that we earned or piled up from our past experiences, memories, and what people have said.
I think, it’s difficult to answer those questions based on real-life actions we actually did, but instead we answer based on what we think we would do (based on your self image) in those situations. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.
Basically that was what I wanted to talk about with my lovely Chappy.
Chappy gave me some inputs which lead me more questions. I kept asking the questions that popped up in my mind. It was a nice talk.
But during the entire conversation, comments from Chappy includes something like “There is no superiority or inferiority between extrovert or introvert…difference is energy flow…it’s okay to be introvert, blah blah blah” as if I’m feeling negative about being an introvert.
Chappy had a clear assumption that introvert is inferior or that I am thinking in such a way. It had been bothering me.
So the end of conversation, I asked Chappy that I never said anything good or bad about either type and I do know (do understand) there is no superiority or inferiority, but you (Chappy) assumed and talked to me as if I thought that way—why?
Here is the answer:
The bias that introverts are inferior to extroverts is widespread, especially in social and professional contexts. (So Chappy assumed.)
Hmm… it is sad news for all the fellow introverts in the world.
But still, I’m happy being an introvert, thought!
