This is a little thing I’m proud of.
I’ve managed to make waking as part of my routine! (at least for now ;p)
I’ve never really enjoyed any kind of sports or physical exercise, and I’m not good at it. Whenever I pass someone jogging on the street, I can’t help but admire them. I am fully aware of how important exercise is for my wellbeing, but it has been something VERY difficult for me to do. Well, it was about time I tackled it.
It was a baby step.
I started off with a stroll. A stroll with a little treat. I knew it would be difficult for me to just go for a walk. I needed a purpose to do it. So I set a supermarket or convenience store bit far from my place as my goal. Every time I managed to go for a walk, I happily headed home with some sweets in my hands (I know what you want to say ;)).
Next, I sifted/set walking time during my lunch break. A 15-minute walk out and back makes it 30 minutes, and 30 minutes for having lunch. (I have 1 hour lunch break)
It helped me to stop buying sweets each time I go for a walk (no time for shopping!) and also make walking a routine.
This 30-minute walking definitely makes me feel better and happy. I can see benefits on mental health but how about physical health? Hmm…there is anything noticeable.
Shall I start jogging? Should I try? Is it finally the time for me to be a runner? Noooooo…..I don’t think so. I will probably end up quitting everything (including walking) together!
That’s when I learned about interval walking exercise. It is very simple 🙂
Interval walking a.k.a. Japanese walking method:
•A 3-min fast walk (no running) + 3-min slow walk (normal walking pace) = 1 set (6 mins)
•Repeat this for 5 sets (total 30 mins), 4 times a week
Japanese Walking Method
You can even do this in separate sessions. For example, it still gives you the same exercise benefits if you do 3 sets in the morning and 2 sets in the evening (how flexible it is!).
According to research data, Japanese walking method provides greater benefits than 10,000 steps a day.
Besides, what I like about Japanese walking method is I can feel that I am doing exercise, but it still keeps all the charm of a stroll. I can enjoy the sights of both nature and the city as I walk.
Spring is here!

Of course, I still love relaxing at home-it’s what makes me feel happy 😉
